Mobile Microlearning

Mobile, responsive and effective, microlearning is the new way to deliver relevant content in bite-sized chunks for anytime, anywhere learning. Breaking down knowledge into smaller bits (micros) makes it easier for students to digest and remember. My micro packages all contain self-grading, trackable assessments and look great on any desktop, laptop, or mobile device. Micros can form part of a topic, what I call a “macro” and macros can make up a course. These are just a few examples of the microlearning packages I’ve developed. You can see hundreds more in the Library at Blending Education.

BIOLOGY: The Study of Life

In this macro, students learn about the shared characteristics of the natural world. Contains 2 micro units, glossary terms, knowledge checks (multiple-choice) quizzes. A final assessment is also included. Automatically reports students’ grades and completion status to the LMS.

Rapid e-Learning Design

Mobile microlearning is able to be created in a fraction of the time as conventional learning. These are just a small sample of the many microlearning packages I have created. Contact me if you are interested in learning more.

Micro Packages

A “Micro” is a short lesson designed for easy consumption. Micros typically have a few key points with interactions and a trackable quiz and can be part of a topic (a “Macro”). Micros reduce cognitive load and allow learners to spend time on the most important and relevant concepts in a short time.

Macro Packages

A “macro” is a topic containing Micros, with a trackable quizzes plus an assessment at the end.

Courses

Courses contain individual micros, macros and final assessments. Organizing learning into self-contained units allows teachers more flexibility in supplementing their teaching, and can promote a more personalized learning path for students.

LMS/VLE Compatibility

Micros, Macros and Courses include 2 published versions of SCORM: SCORM 1.2 and SCORM 2004. SCORM 1.2 and 2004 packages are compatible with almost all LMS and VLE systems. SCORM 2004 is more advanced and the recommended package to use, however some LMSs, like Moodle, are only compatible with SCORM 1.2 at this time.
